Tutorials and FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)s
Let's face it. If we knew all the answers, we would all be millionaires and would have hired someone to figure this out for us! So until you're a millionaire (and you ADOPT your webmaster) here are some helpful sites to keep you rolling on the Information Highway:

How to login to the hogalaska.com members area.

We know to some that what we are about to say may seem insulting, but this tutorial is for ANYONE who can't access the section and so we are going through all the steps.

Logging in:
Firstly, make sure you are going to the login section by selecting the "members" selection under the "contents" category of the website menu.

Access ID/Password:
Here is the spot where you need to have the ID and Password from the Chapter Newsletter to type in the correct information:

This is the first screen that will popup. There are TWO sections to fill out as shown above: the User Name (ID) and Password. You get these from the newsletter or if you are a chapter member in good standing, contact the Webmaster

When you've typed in the ID and Password click the OK button. Though you can select the "Remember my password" it is NOT recommended. The reason is that as the ID and Password will change on a regular basis, this will preclude you from accessing the site when they change.

From this point you are in the members section - welcome!

Gallery Tutorial (or How Do I Upload these @%!* Photos!)

Believe me...it's simpler than you think.

Save the picture(s) to your hard drive [right-click and choose "Save As..."] OR download a picture from your digital camera or scanner (refer to your manufacturers documentation for specifics on how to do this).

You do not need to create an account just to view or upload the photos in the Chapter Photo Album or to view photos in the Photo of the Month Album. You can place comments on any of the photos in any album. If there are photos in the gallery that you like and you did not post, you can download them to your hard drive for your private use. Commercial use of any photo downloaded from this site is prohibited without the express consent of HOG. However, we (HOG) may use the photos uploaded for other marketing purposes without any further consent.

Once you're in the Chapter Photo Album, select the category and/or sub-album you wish to upload to.

  1. Click the "Add Item" link in the left hand column.
  2. A new browser window will appear that allows you to add from 5 or up to 10 photos at a time.
  3. Click the "Browse" button and find the picture on your hard drive. Select it and click "Open".
  4. Select the picture(s) from your hard disk that you have downloaded or saved from your camera.
  5. Enter the caption if you want. By default, the program will use the file name if no caption is provided.
  6. Click the "Add Items" button at the bottom of the page.
  7. You get another smaller window showing the progress. DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW!

When you have completed all the photos, gallery displays a screen stating your images are uploaded with a  dismiss  button. That is It! You are done.

If the smaller "progress" window closes and you are kicked back to the upload / browse window. You may have tried to upload too large of a photo. You must resize your photos using your photo editing software.

If the smaller  progress  window has not gone away you may now close it.

Still having trouble uploading photos? Do not panic, contact the Webmaster

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Website

  1. How can I get a "cool" hogalaska.com e-mail? Sorry, it's for officers and House of Harley staff at this time.
  2. Who is allowed access to the members section? Any active Chapter 66 HOG member or sponsor employee may receive access to the member's section.
  3. How come I have to login even though I linked to the site? It is because certain sections of the site require authentication to access...even though you linked to it.
Gallery
  1. My big picture is not showing up? We have set a standard viewing size of 640x480 for pictures, so even a larger photo will be automatically sized by the gallery program.
  2. Why was my picture removed? There could be several reasons. We have gallery monitors that review the gallery for pictures that:
    • do not conform to HOG guidelines (family friendly)
    • aren't related to HOG (bird watching, quilt shows, company picnics)
    • are hard to view (blurry, grainy, etc).
    • are requested to be removed by individual(s) photographed.
Any pictures found that meet the above criteria will be removed from the gallery.
  3. Can I contest a picture's removal? Yes. Send an e-mail to the webmaster who will be the final arbiter (judge).
  4. Why did you change my caption? Captions will be changed for things like a) the members full name is listed or misspelled (remember Jaz is not Jazz), or b) spelling or grammar (capitalizing names).
  5. I typed the wrong information on the caption, what can I do? Send an e-mail to the webmaster or add a comment that the caption is incorrect so one of the web monitors will make the changes for you.
  6. I want to show my picture to friends, can I just give them the ID and Password? Only if they are active HOG members, otherwise no.
  7. Do I need to put my name or copyright on the picture? No. You can put all of that in the picture description field when you upload the picture to the gallery. When a picture is submitted to HOG it becomes property of HOG. We want you to get credit for the picture, so please do put your name in the caption, but leave the picture "clean" so we can use it on the website or in the HOG Jaw. We will give credit where credit is due. We know you want your photographer patch!
  8. Does posting my photos to the gallery count for my photographers patch? No. Only photos used for the website, newsletter or HOG photo wall at the dealership count towards the patch.
  9. I have a really slow computer because I wanted a fast Harley. Can I just give you the photos to upload? Absolutely! Be warned, during riding season, I am busy riding like you are so it may take time to upload your photos.
  10. How can I get the hogalaska.com pictures for myself on, say, a CD? Contact the Webmaster for details.
  11. Can I download pictures for myself and repost them on my or someone elses website? You may download picture for yourself, but you can not post to another website with written permission from HOG.
  12. What if I find our pictures posted on another web site? Contact a HOG officer immediately.
  13. Can I advertise by posting an advertisement in the gallery? No. It is against HOG rules.
  14. Can I be a gallery monitor? Possibly. Contact the webmaster.
